The countdown begins to
National Shooting Week

National Shooting Week, which will run from Saturday 3 - Sunday 11 May, looks set to be bigger than ever. More than 100 shooting schools and clubs across the nation will open their doors to the public in a bid to find shooting stars of the future.

Shooting is one of the most inclusive Olympic and Paralympic sports, where gender, age and disability are no barriers to success. National Shooting Week is a Government-backed initiative, organised by the British Shooting Sports Council, the umbrella body for shooting sports.

Minister for Sport, Gerry Sutcliffe MP, said: "UK teams are terrific at winning international medals for shooting so I welcome National Shooting Week as a responsible initiative to promote the sport ahead of Beijing 2008 and London 2012."

Organiser, Rob Gray, said: "Shooting is a very popular sport as more people shoot than take part in athletics, rugby and hockey. We're hoping that people from all walks of life will try shooting for the first time during the week. One or two might find themselves representing their country at London 2012 and beyond."

The week is aimed at people who have never experienced target shooting before. Complete beginners who would like to give it a shot can find out where their nearest shooting event is during the week by going to www.nationalshootingweek.co.uk
